David Lodge taught English Literature at the University of Birmingham for many years before retiring to focus on his writing full time. His novels have received the Hawthornden Prize, the Whitbread Book of the Year Award and have been shortlisted for the Booker Prize twice. He has also written several esteemed volumes of literary criticism.
David holds several honorary doctorate degrees and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts and des Lettres. In 1998, he was awarded a CBE for services to literature.
