Margaret Craven was an American author most well-known for the bestselling novel I Heard the Owl Call My Name (1967), inspired by her visits to native villages on the coast of British Columbia. Her second novel, Walk Gently This Good Earth (1977), was followed by a memoir, Again Calls the Owl (1980), and a collection of short stories, The Home Front (1981).
