Will Page
Tarzan Economics
Will Page was the Chief Economist at Spotify from 2012 to 2019 and as such has had the best seat in the house for witnessing – and harnessing – the power of disruptive change. In his first book, he looks at the ten key principles to survival in any sector or industry – the case studies spring-boarding from his experience shaping a new economic model for music at a moment when many felt the entire industry was doomed. Key to this is the ability to pivot from an established economic model to a new experimental one – and, if necessary, a willingness to rebuild both individual roles and organisations in the process.
In short, we need to be ready to turn towards the direction of the action, even if it’s opposite to the one we’ve always faced. Page describes himself as a one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind, able to see danger and opportunity where others can’t, and it’s this perception he’s keen to share in Tarzan Economics: that sometimes, what looks like impending disaster is actually a moment ripe with potential.
