Emma Smith was born in 1923 in Newquay, Cornwall. Her first book, Maiden's
Trip, was published in 1948 and won the John Llewellyn Rhys
Memorial Prize. Her second book, The Far Cry, was published the
following year and awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. She has
since published several successful children's books as well as numerous
short stories.
Emma lives in Putney in southwest London.
