Adam Kay’s This is Going to Hurt was awarded three prizes at the National Book Awards last night.
Kay’s bestselling memoir won Popular Nonfiction Book Of The Year, Zoe Ball’s Book Club Book Of The Year, and New Writer Of The Year.
Written as a series of revealing diary entries, This is Going to Hurt records Kay’s experience of life on the wards as a junior doctor. At the prize ceremony last night, Kay commented that ‘I realised that doctors weren't getting their side of the story across.’
The Specsavers National Book Awards celebrates the best and most popular books of the year. Judged by a panel of influential members of the publishing industry, the award for Book of the Year will be selected from among the winners of each category by a public vote and announced on 30 December. Voting closes at midnight on Sunday 23 December.
