Jack Rooke makes Radio 4 Arts special on M.I.A.

Comedian Jack Rooke presents his first Radio 4 arts documentary MAMMA M.I.A. : The Influence Of An Icon which broadcasts on Tuesday 9th October at 11:30am.

Rapper, mother, director, refugee and activist - Maya Arulpragasam is one of Britain's most successful working-class artists - M.I.A. To celebrate 10 years since Paper Planes rose up the UK charts, Jack profiles his idol’s artistry from her activism to her music, whilst telling his own story of teenage grief, super fandom and how Maya's work inspired him to turn adversity into hope.

Featuring interviews with Steve Loveridge, director of award-winning film MATANGI / MAYA / MIA, Steve Mackey of Brit-pop sensation Pulp, Kieran Yates of The Good Immigrant, hip-hop cult legend Afrikan Boy and the only UK interview with M.I.A. at Bestival 2018.
