Jakob Verbruggen's The Alienist

TV series, The Alienist, directed by Jakob Verbruggen and adapted for the screen by Hossein Amini, premieres on TNT Monday, 22nd January at 9pm. The dramatic series, based on Caleb Carr’s thrilling best-seller, follows crime reporter, John Moore (Luke Evans), and psychologist, Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl) as they work together to investigate a serial killer in New York during the late 19th century.

Jakob Verbruggen’s former credits include directing series of the multi-award winning Black Mirror and the season finale of House of Cards. He also directed London Spy, starring Ben Wishaw and Jim Broadbent, for which he was nominated for a BAFTA Craft Award for Best Director.

Hossein Amini is a writer and director for film and television. He was nominated for an Oscar for his adaptation of Henry James' classic novel Wings of a Dove. In 2011 he wrote the screenplay for Drive which was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival as well as Best Film at the BAFTAs 2012.
