Kara Tointon takes on the challenge of playing one of the best loved characters of all time in ITV’s two and a half hour broadcast of The Sound of Music Live in celebration of the film's 50th anniversary.
Kara plays Fraulein Maria, a nun who leaves her convent and becomes a nanny for Mr Von Trapp and his seven children, all of whom she falls in love with. For one night only, ITV will take us back to the 1965 Rogers and Hammerstein musical classic we all know and love and performed as a completely live event from beginning to end. Based on the original stage musical, Kara and her cast will before all the popular songs from the production as they bring the timeless classic back to life.
Kara Tointon is best known for her role as Dawn Swann in EastEnders and most recently as Rosalie Selfridge in ITV’s hit show Mr Selfridge. She has made numerous appearances in London’s West End including Relatively Speaking opposite Felicity Kendall, Absent Friends at the Harold Pinter Theatre and starring opposite Rupert Everett in the dazzling revival of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. Kara is set to star in sci-fi thriller Let’s Be Evil which is released in 2016.
