Morfydd Clark and Conrad Khan nominated for the BAFTA EE Rising Star Award

Conrad Khan and Morfydd Clark have been named as two of 2021’s EE’s BAFTA Rising Star nominees.

Born and raised in north London, Conrad Khan, is best known for his highly acclaimed role as Tyler, in Henry Blake’s 2020 feature film, COUNTY LINES. A performance that has earnt him a BIFA nomination for ‘Most Promising Newcomer’ as well as Screen International Star of Tomorrow, for which they also celebrated his “exceptional performance”. His leading role also received further industry praise from Variety; “Conrad Khan, delivers a breakout performance”.

Highly topical and compelling, the film explores the dark world of the drug dealing network known as ‘County Lines’ and the consequences it can have on young and vulnerable people, their families and lives.

Screen International ‘Star of Tomorrow’ Morfydd Clark has been singled out by the critics for her breathtaking performance in Rose Glass’s award winning feature debut Saint Maud. Morfydd plays ‘Maud’, a role that has her being compared to Catherine Deneuve and Sissy Spacek’s ‘Carrie’ in the psychological thriller film that centres on a young religious private carer who becomes dangerously fixated with saving the soul of her glamorous patient ‘Amanda’ played by Jennifer Ehle. Morfydd was identified by The Guardian as the ‘Breakout Star’ of the 2019 festival circuit and has gone on to win the London Critic’s Circle Award for ‘British/Irish Actress of the Year’, be nominated in the category of ‘Best Actress’ at The British Independent Film Awards and has also been longlisted in BAFTA’s ‘Best Actress’ category. The film was released in October 2020 by Studio Canal.

2020 was a breakthrough year for Morfydd: she appeared as both ‘Dora Spenlow’ and ‘Clara Copperfield’ in Armando Iannucci’s The Personal History of David Copperfield, and as ‘young Jane’ in Craig Robert’s Eternal Beauty opposite Sally Hawkins. Other recent notable screen credits include: Carol Morley’s The Falling, Whit Stillman’s feature Love & Friendship, SKY Atlantic/Showtime co-production Patrick Melrose, Netflix/BBC One series Dracula and HBO/BBC adaptation of Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials. Morfydd is currently in New Zealand filming Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings.
