Ocean of Minutes Makes The Giller Prize Shortlist

An Ocean of Minutes by Thea Lim has made the five-strong shortlist for The Giller Prize, Canada’s most prestigious literary award.

Since the prize was established in 1994, its winners have included Margaret Atwood, Alice Munro, and Michael Ondaatje. This year’s winner will be announced at a gala ceremony on 19th November and awarded $100,000.

Published by Penguin Random House Canada in June this year, An Ocean of Minutes has been described as ‘elegant and haunting’ (The Star, Toronto) and praised for its ‘provocative speculative setting, masterfully elegant writing, and […] story that moves and haunts long after the last page’ (David Chariandy, author of Brother). The book is published by Quercus in the UK and by Touchstone in the US, while Chinese rights are with Hangzhou Guomai Culture & Media and Dutch rights are with House of Books.
