Shola Amoo's The Last Tree is released in cinemas
Written and directed by Shola Amoo, The Last Tree is released in UK cinemas on Friday 27th September 2019.
The semi-autobiographical feature, which premiered at Sundance, follows Femi who is lifted from his Lincolnshire home where he lives with his foster mother. Things change when he is suddenly taken back to inner-city London by his birth mother played by Gbemisola Ikumelo. From there, Femi has to come to terms with his new life, his new family structure, and his own identity. Demmy Ladipo also features as Mace.
Here's what the critics are saying already:
'Hypnotic work of a natural-born film-maker' Financial Times
'Shola Amoo is an important new voice and vision' The Big Issue
'The coming-of-age template is taken to an audacious place — Amoo’s introspective portrait of a conflicted boy is ripe with tangible frustration and poetry that colours the picture with striking empathy.' Empire
