The British Book Awards Shortlist Announced

The shortlist for The British Book Awards (a.k.a. the Nibbies) has been announced, featuring multiple Curtis Brown and ICM authors. Now in its 30th Year, the prestigious awards recognise and celebrate the commercial successes of authors, publishers, agents and booksellers in the industry.

We are delighted to have four titles in the Fiction Book of the Year category: THE GIVER OF STARS by Jojo Moyes, LIES LIES LIES by Adele Parks, and joint Booker Prize winners GIRL, WOMAN, OTHER by Bernardine Evaristo and Margaret Atwood’s THE TESTAMENTS. Margaret Atwood also received a double nomination in the Audiobook Book of the Year category for both THE HANDMAID’S TALE and THE TESTAMENTS.

Taffy Brodesser-Ackner’s FLEISHMAN IS IN TROUBLE is shortlisted for Debut Book of the Year, whilst THE HUNTING PARTY by Lucy Foley features for Crime & Thriller Book of the Year.

Titles featured in the Non-Fiction: Narrative Book of the Year include THREE WOMEN by Lisa Taddeo, LADY IN WAITING by Lady Anne Glenconner and Adam Kay’s TWAS THE NIGHTSHIFT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, whilst Philippa Perry’s THE BOOK YOU WISH YOUR PARENTS HAD READ is shortlisted for Non-Fiction Lifestyle Book of the Year.

In the Children’s Fiction Book of the Year category, Andy Griffith’s THE 117-STOREY TREEHOUSE has been shortlisted. With over 85 translation editions, the TREEHOUSE series has now sold 7 million copies worldwide.

In addition to our book category nominees, we are thrilled that Curtis Brown agent Karolina Sutton has been nominated for Literary Agent of the Year. Karolina broke literary award history in 2019, as the agent for joint Booker Prize winners GIRL, WOMAN OTHER and THE TESTAMENTS.

The British Book Awards have been rescheduled due to the outbreak of coronavirus, and will now take place on 29th June 2020 at The J W Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in central London.
