The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock Longlisted for Desmond Elliott Prize

Imogen Hermes Gowar’s debut novel, The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock, has been longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize for new fiction. Awarded to an English-language first novel published in the UK, the prize has been called the most prestigious award for debut novelists. The winner will be announced at a ceremony at Fortnum & Mason on 20th June and awarded a £10,000 prize.

A Sunday Times Bestseller, The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock has previously been longlisted for this year’s Women’s Prize for Fiction and praised as “by turns intriguing, touching, funny, sad and heartwarming” by The Times and “the start of a major career for this young writer” by Vogue.
