The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock shortlisted for Women’s Prize for Fiction

Imogen Hermes Gowar’s novel The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock has been announced as one of six books on the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2018 shortlist. The winner will be announced on June 6th, and receive a £30,000. Sarah Sands, Chair of the 2018 judges, said of the books, “The themes of the shortlist have both contemporary and lasting resonance encompassing the birth of the internet, race, sexual violence, grief, oh and mermaids… all are [by] blazingly good and brave writers.”

The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock is Gowar’s debut novel and was a Sunday Times Bestseller. It has also been longlisted for the Desmond Elliot Prize, and is set to be adapted for film or TV by Playground Entertainment.
