Robert O’Connor was born in Manhattan in 1959, and grew up in Eastchester, NY. He received a B.A. in English/Writing Arts from Oswego State University and an M.A. in English from Syracuse University. His novel, Buffalo Soldiers, (Knopf, 1993) was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and named one of the best books of the 1990’s by Esquire magazine. Buffalo Soldiers has been adapted into a movie directed by Gregor Jordan and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, and Anna Paquin. In 1996, Robert O’Connor was named one of the “Best of the Young American Novelists” by Granta magazine. He teaches creative writing and literature at Oswego State University in upstate New York.
