Writer and Director for Film and TV

Tinge graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Sheffield. As a doctor she held posts in Cardiology, Orthopaedics and in the ER before deciding to pursue her love of film at New York University. Shortly after graduating from the NYU postgraduate scheme she, along with three other directors, was chosen to produce a three-minute piece shot in a day, Random Nights, as part of the FilmFour Lab launch at Edinburgh Film Festival.

Continuing her relationship with FilmFour, Tinge went on to make the short Shadowscan, under the “New Directors Scheme” (BFI/FilmFour), winning the BAFTA for Best Short Film as well as being screened at Sundance and numerous other festivals around the world.

Her next short film First screened to great acclaim in competition at the Berlin Film Festival. Tinge then went on to complete The Circle, a half hour drama for Channel 4 and IWCʼs Coming Up, talent scheme.

Tinge’s debut feature film Junkhearts won the award for Best Film and Best Lead Actor (Eddie Marsan) at the 2012 Moscow International Film Festival. Lead actress Candese Reid also won the award for Best British Newcomer at the London Film Festival 2011.

Tinge followed up her debut with the Film 4/BFI feature musical film Been So Long, starring Arinze Kene and Michaela Coel.

Recently Tinge directed three episodes of Industry for HBO/Sky and is BAFTA nominated for her work on Soon Gone: A Windrush Chronicle for the BBC.

Tinge is directing on the adaptation of The Mosquito Coast for Apple currently.

Upcoming projects include Into the Darkest Corner, an adaptation of Elizabeth Haynes’ powerful account of domestic violence which was a New York Times Bestseller and Amazon Book of The Year 2011. The producers include Michael Winterbottom’s company Revolution Films, Disruptive Element Films and Circle of Confusion. Development has been supported by the BFI and The Wellcome Trust.

Tinge is also writing a screenplay to be directed by WIZ (acclaimed music video director: Manic Street Preachers, Marylin Manson, Kasabian, Will Young) which has Ben Wishaw attached in the lead role.

Tinge is represented by Curtis Brown in the UK and Circle of Confusion and UTA in the US.
