Epic adaptation of War and Peace airs on BBC One

Leo Tolstoy’s war-time epic War and Peace, has been re-adapted by Tom Harper and BBC One for a six-part mini-series due to air in the UK on 3rd January 2016.

The lavish costume drama follows the events of the Napoleonic invasion of Russia and the impact it has upon the lives and loves of its characters, played by a number of Curtis Brown clients including Callum Turner, Olivia Ross, Thomas Arnold, Will Attenborough, Alex Bhat, Nick Brimble, Kate Fleetwood and Milo Twomey.

Callum Turner plays series regular Anatol Kuragin, a young and amoral pleasure seeker. Anatolia’s father is keen for him to marry a wealthy woman of position, but Anatol tries to convince Natasha Rostov (Lily James) to elope with him. Callum recently appeared in Paul McGuigan’s feature Victor Frankenstein and Jack Saulnier’s thriller Green Room.

Olivia Ross plays series regular Mlle Bourienne, the French companion of Princess Mary. Frustrated with being stuck in the middle of nowhere, far from society, and with a slightly dull charge, Bourienne is quick to find other ways to keep herself entertained. 

Olivia has just finished shooting Chubby Funny opposite Anna Maxwell-Martin and Augustus Prew. She shot the lead in the feature Blowing Louder than the Wind and starred in the critically acclaimed feature Father Of My Children which won the Jury Special Prize at Cannes.  

Thomas Arnold plays Denisov, a friend and fellow officer of the central character Nikolai Rostov and a suitor of Nikolai’s sister Natasha. Thomas’ credits include Far From the Madding Crowd, Call The Midwife, Wolf Hall, Midsommer Murders and This Is England and he is about to open in Dr Seuss’ The Lorax at The Old Vic Theatre.

Will Attenborough plays a Young Artillery Officer. Will recently starred opposite Nicole Kidman in the West End production of Photograph 51 and in Sky1’s bold new comedy drama You, Me & The Apocalypse and ITV1’s new drama series Midwinter of the Spirit.

Alex Bhat plays the German Prince. Alex graduated from Guildhall last year. He most recently starred as Alan in French without Tears at the Orange Tree Theatre and other television credits include E4 comedy series, Chewing Gum and Scott Free’s production of Halo: Nightfall.

Nick Brimble plays Dron, a village Elder. Nick’s recent work includes the forthcoming feature film Soulmate and his television credits include New Tricks and Law and Order. He has recently finished shooting Legends for Fox and a recurring role in Grantchester for ITV.

Kate Fleetwood plays the beautiful peasant Anisya. Kate was most recently seen in the title role of Medea at the Almeida and prior to that was seen leading High Society as Tracy Lord at the Old Vic.

Milo Twomey plays Officer Grigori. Milo can currently be seen as Mr Banks in the UK Tour of Mary Poppins. On TV he recently appeared in guest roles in the new BBC drama Cuffs and will soon appear in Endeavour for ITV.

The first episode of War and Peace airs on Sunday 3rd January 2016 on BBC One at 9pm.
